M, is for the million things she gave me…

October 30, 2008, 9:35 am

O, means only that she’s growing old
T, is for the tears were shed to save me.
H, is for her heart of purest gold.
E, is for her eyes with love-light shining
R, means right as right she will always be,
Put them all together they spell MOTHER,
A word that means the world to me.

Today is my Mothers 50th Birthday and as such, I thought it would be appropriate to dedicate today’s PrettyMike post to my PrettyMom.

Throughout my years she has been a source of continuous support and no matter what the situation she’s always had an open ear and kind word for my heavy heart.

Thank you for being such a wonderful Mother – please have a Happy, Wonderful, Stupendous, Wondrous, Magnificent Birthday Mommy- I love you very much.

You may now burn with jealousy-

October 29, 2008, 9:22 am

Some very cool things happened to me recently: I moved directly across the street from my office. Literally there is no physical address closer to my office than my apartment, which freakin rules.

You may have noticed the new link in my blogroll for Heaven Sent Bulldog Rescue. After an application, home visit, and many, many emails I am now at the meet the dog phase and see if we are a good match. His name is Bubba, and I love him already.

Could this Be Pretty Bubba?

Could this Be Pretty Bubba?

If you love Bulldogs and are interested in helping them please check out their website, add them on facebook, send the link around to your friends…you know the drill.

I shot today’s picture a couple years back, and since the subject is in the hospital not doing so well I thought I would dedicate today’s post to Lucca- the best kisser I’ve ever known. Get well soon.

Jesus wasn't a micro-manager.

October 28, 2008, 10:38 am

If he was Judas would not have been able to get away during working hours to plan our Lords ultimate demise. However, having spent a great deal of my childhood doing extracurricular activities through the Church and at one point I even considered being a traveling evangelical preacher, there is no doubt that dogma has an influence in decision making process, and in my general attitude towards life and love.

These days I watch Church on Sundays, Joel Olsteen gives me my power half hour of holy crap things are going to be alright. I consider myself spiritual but not religious, I take time to appreciate the flowers and the trees and definitely the birds and the bees (sorry I couldn’t help it), and choose to think about all the good in my life as opposed to how things could of been better.

My hope is that people who frequent my site will find pictures that awe them, writing that inspires and a good laugh from time to time.

It’s Turkey Tuesday at the Hawk n Dove and I intend to be there to get my tryptophan on big time- I love today’s photo.

Warning: Reading PrettyMike may cause…

October 27, 2008, 10:40 am

Nausea, vomiting, profuse sweating, hairy palms, elongated toes, extreme joint pain and lowered sperm count.

But hell that itch at the back of your throat should be all taken care of-

Several issues to take care of this morning:

1. Happy Monday: and Happy Birthday to Darby Rene McCluskey and Carla Urbina-

2. Good Friends: More precious than gold and rarer than any stone. Like fast money fast friends come as fast as they go.

3. My Awesome new Forrest Gump shoes. Actually they are called the anti-shoe. Just over the weekend I have noticed a considerable difference in the pressure on my lower back.

4. Check out Modern Home Living Magazine

The Picture today is of what maybe my last harvest of the season for my Lavender. Sad but true.

Decorated my office today.

October 26, 2008, 6:37 pm

I am not sure why…it could have been the 48 hours of Bravo I watched this weekend (jk) or maybe it’s all the queer eye for the straight guy on my tivo but for some reason today I decided to walk across the street and decorate my office.

Hang photos to warm the place
A mirror to open it up
Some Funk Sway (I know its Feng Sui); however, I prefer Funk Sway- it’s the ancient Chinese Art of Gettin down to the get down. Staying funky without being funked up. Ya dig?

I also cleaned my apartment, shot photos for a couple hours and worked on some deals I am trying to close.

Since it’s Sunday I gave myself a photo-editing day off- Here is a shot I took in Dupont Circle two Falls ago.

Letting people let you down

October 25, 2008, 3:20 pm

This week I have been greatly disappointed in some people -while simultaneously reinvigorated by others.

(In my mind it’s Karma patting me on the back for choosing happiness amongst chaos.)

Flabbergasted by the behavior of two individuals in my professional life for different reasons and a third close friend with which I have been through thick and thin- which stood by silent and let me be disrespected, it would have normally made me very angry then very sad.

But this time I just knew it would work out and realized people are people and just because they don’t act how WE want them too doesn’t mean they are not doing the best they can. I have not one iota of doubt that 2009 will be the year I look back to as the year that things really took off for me.

I took this shot today on the way to get coffee, then screwed around in Photoshop for a few minutes. Color, Depth, Texture I really like it if I must say so myself.

Sara, Thank you for your constant and unwavering support even when I didn’t deserve it.

Peace Amongst Chaos

October 24, 2008, 10:04 am

Over the last couple of days I have been toiling internally about a conflict in my life. Generally, like Poor Richard I like “To be at peace with my neighbors and war with my vices”. I would even say I am non-confrontational when it comes to emotional issues.

This particular problem is an issue of a person in my professional life being disrespectful and issuing personal insults- it’s an issue I have never ran into before, but I guess being in Washington D.C. I should have expected character assault at some point…of course I thought I would be running for office.

Amongst my toil I realized that those who are intimidated will always try and tear down who they fear.

Peace and happiness is a choice, even amongst chaos.

My New Third Eye…How I am seeing the world a whole new way.

October 21, 2008, 11:48 pm

So today feeling low as a man can feel, having been injured and off the jiu jitsu mat for almost a year, having my lens break while seemingly small was enough to make me feel as Job did.

Ripping my clothes and crying out to God wondering why he was taking everyone and everything I loved I wondered how was I to go on?

But then my other man rose up, and took me down to Penn Camera and I asked questions, made deals, asked for veterans discounts and soaked up any bit of information I could from a man who was obviously behind a retail counter talking about Cameras in his 60’s because of love, no other reason.

So I am getting my 18-70mm fixed and using my 70-300 like a super spy. I love the range and immediately realized why investment in equipment is paramount for growth.
