Parenting 102: Calling All Parents…HELP!

May 29, 2008, 8:02 pm

My little girl just moved to a new school and is getting picked on by a girl who I imagined looks like Michael Clark Duncan from The Green Mile.

When I heard the girls name was TaiAsia or some equally absurd concoction I could only tell Taylor that bullies by nature are cowards and she has two courses of action.

1. She should try and befriend the girl- let us not forget Nelson Muntz terrible home life which caused his acting out.

2. If that doesn’t work and it looks like there is going to be an altercation then she should hit first and hit hard, and keep hitting until someone pulls her off.

I was a little hesitant about giving my second piece of advice but it’s how I have always lived and felt that if she kicks the bullies ass then she will not have a problem getting picked on anymore.  It worked for me, it works on tv jail shows, how could it fail?

Any comments or words of (en or dis)-couragement would be greatly appreciated.  What do you: or what will you tell your kids about dealing with bullies?

"There's two kinds of guys in this world-

May 26, 2008, 8:38 pm

Guy’s like me who run shit-

and guys like you, who eat shit.”

School for Scoundrels

Obviously, I am a run shit guy – not an insensitive overbearing jackass. Just the type of person who can visualize what I want and get it. Sometimes it takes days, sometimes months, some goals are 10-20 years in the making.

Regardless of time frame over the last 10 years, the one thing I have learned is persistence, patience, tenacity, gumption and moxy all pay off. (a little luck, and a praying grandmother never hurt either)

The Perfect Day – Except for the tourist…

May 24, 2008, 10:38 pm

It must have been “Mullet Day” in Washington DC as droves of rednecks from the flyover states like a herd of cattle steadily moved through our city in awe of all the wonders those who live here take for granted everyday.

As anyone who knows me will tell you, I hate tourist- they “fuck up my chi”

But I must admit they make me a better artist because they keep me utilizing all the wonderful opportunities that only the Nations Capital affords its residents. To that end, I only give them wrong directions every other time I am asked.

If you live in the metro area and have not been to a museum in over a year then shame on you, if you haven’t ridden on the metro, sat in Dupont Circle and read the paper on Sunday, shopped in Eastern Market or fought with a cab driver about how many zones you went, please get out and experience MY City.

I spent the day in the sun walking and talking with a beautiful friend enjoying conversation about past, present and future.

We laughed much, and saw so many beautiful flowers blooming across the city, in peoples gardens, and yards….we sat in the grass after we saw a beautiful exhibit at the National Gallery and discussed the wonderful Art while people watching and soaking up Sun.

The reason I enjoyed the exhibit so much was the wide range of time, artist and styles which I thought was well presented and really made you feel as if you were walking through history. If you have 30 minutes take a walk through history.

Thursday Night Delight & (Tina Fey's Baby Mamma)

May 23, 2008, 10:19 am

I went to see Tina Fey’s Baby’s Mama with a friend last night- it was funny and gave me boisterous laughs throughout.

To be honest when the birthing coach suggested rubbing EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) on the taint, I laughed so hard I about pee’d myself- but once I got home and tested out her theory I understood completely why we should all do that for each other everyday. (jk…sort of)

Here is my artistic offering for the day I hope you enjoy your Friday and weekend with someone special.

ex-ex-ex-ex-ex-ex-ex-ex

May 21, 2008, 1:56 pm

I just recently saw 3 ex gf’s in as many days- I had a wonderful time with all three, all three are happy and growing as individuals and I couldn’t be happier for them.

It’s always good to see those you care about doing well.

It’s funny how a little time and space can qwell the hurt and anguish which at the time seemed so real but later seems so trivial.

It seems weird to care about 3 so completely different people in such entirely different ways and yet still care.

Perplexed I am – but as Susan Powder says “insanity is doing the same thing (she should add person) again and again and expecting a different result.”

But doesn’t love deserve a second chance or have I been watching too much lifetime?

Mother and Me

The picture is of me and my mother leaving Camp Cow Pie in Columbus GA circa 198?

Calling All Angels

May 20, 2008, 12:16 pm

Anytime you have a chance to catch up with old friends there is inevitably the walk down memory lane, the wonder at seeing those moving forward and sorrow of seeing those slipping away.

I am still pondering the conversations I had, honestly- I am emotionally drained from crying for those who are where I have been and I can just pray that they see their way out of where they are.

I have been listening to this song all morning and wishing the best for all my friends and family.
