08 so gets me.
She understands I need my space and just because I am not saying anything doesn’t mean something is wrong.
Truth is- me and 2007… we never clicked. I’ve been mentally checked out for a couple of weeks…missing dates, not calling, purposely giving weak explanations, during “the talk” I gave a weak performance of a caring lover sparking the questions “did you ever care about me at all”…followed by an even weaker “sure, I guess”.
Ok 2007 In No Particular Order for Me -

Pancake Breakfast and thoughts back to a better time.
December 29, 2007, 11:27 am
I love cooking for my daughter. I want her to understand what loving service looks like, I don’t cook to save money, or even because I love it so much…(get me a waitress and another round any day) but I want her to understand that as her father I really enjoy doing things for her that don’t involve: Child Support, gifts, cell phone bills, braces etc…
I want her to know that I think she is intelligent, beautiful and that if I could choose any kid in the world to have I would have chosen her.
As she was eating and I was “cleaning as I went” I had enough batter for one final tribute Pancake.
If you didn’t see Uncle Buck please go fall on a knife.

I am not a 10 year old girl
December 28, 2007, 12:47 pm
but I wish I thought more like one.
1. This morning I wanted to have a heart attack when my daughter broke out a vanity kit that would make a movie star blush and smelled like Sephora had been up for days smoking crack.
In her defense she has never gone overboard in application it’s just the hoarding that has me worried.
2. After she made my Manthroom look like back stage at a hello kitty concert I noticed an Intuition Razor kit…
“What’s the razor for?” I inquired {please say to fashion into a shank and stab someone on the school yard…nope} “shaving my legs” she casually replies.
Crap.
I thought I would share what my fridge looked like before we went to Harris Teeter for weekend supplies…apparently she can’t survive on Starbucks and Ravi Kabob like her old man.

Christmas and my exstestential Nintendo DS Meltdown
December 27, 2007, 2:20 pm
You know you’ve been at the wheel, but you don’t remember any of the drive- I had told myself that I was heartless enough to tell my daughter that the $300.00 deposit + $1595 broken down into 17 months of $85.00 closed out with a final $150.00 on the 18th month was a Christmas gift that would last her a lifetime. A perfect smile…who could give more?
But I know that’s not good enough and she’s coming tonight and honestly I’m panicking. So I’m here sweating at gamestop being shuffled around by nerds, bad kids and being ignored by an uncaring staff. I get the idea that this place, like many District hotspots has a language I do not speak, I fear my lack of curved spine, and callused thumbs are screaming “not in the know”. How could I be uncool? Unknowing? Oh yeah, time moved on.
So as I stare into a world I no longer know, I debate with myself:
Me: The Nintendo DS…The marketing was good-
Me Also: I liked the learning aspect of the marketed games
Also Me: Maybe I’ll buy a Wii for my house and then she will want to come down more often…
I: Video Games? I dunno I always saw myself as having more imagination
Yo: “oh do you like comcast cause it’s so much faster???”, God I love the slowskys.
Me: Maybe I should give her my Treo then get myself an Iphone? Stay focused.
Me: Give a Donation to the Human Fund in her name?
I finally ask what $129.00 buys me from a kids whose acne looks fatal, he tells me it includes “the unit” (I swear he said unit), stylus pen and charger. He chuckled when I asked if it came with a game and said “no.”
I decide to think about it over lunch at Rock Bottom surely a Pale Ale will have the answer.

Short Muse, Cool pic.
December 26, 2007, 10:23 pm
I spent the day after ignoring much of my “todo” list looking for a pic to post-
My back is feeling better, I never would have believed that rest and relaxation would have worked unless I experienced it for myself. (and part of me still thinks I’m lyin’)
2008 here we come, I don’t make resolutions but I do set vague and easily attainable goals…I think last year “pay attention more often” was on the list and achieved.

FA RA RA RA- RA RA, RA RA. 24 Hours of "A Christmas Story"
December 25, 2007, 10:52 am
There is nothing I enjoy more than 24 Hours of “A Christmas Story” every Holiday. It taught me several things on my journey towards manhood.
1. Santa is a liar and if you wanted a BB gun, your Dad was the person you needed in your pocket to get it.
2. If you get triple dog dared you have to do it.
3. Don’t snitch
4. Mail Order redemption coupons are a scam. (Drink more Ovaltine)
5. Don’t swear in front of your father until your old enough to take him in a fist fight.
6. No matter what I do, if I cry hard enough my Mother will forget about my discretion.
*This is true with most women throughout life-
7. Chinese Restaurants are open on Christmas.
8. Fragile: It must be Italian.
It started last night at 8pm on TBS and will continue through this evening.

The lessons I am learning these days-
December 23, 2007, 3:17 pm
It’s amazing how an injury is all the sudden a commitment. Girls, if you can injure a man it’s an immediate commitment.
You have to deal with it all the time and it effects every aspect of your life including the love part.
I herniated two disc in my back and have been in what I tell my doctors is between 8-10 on the pain scale for going on 6 weeks.
I never realized that it would change my whole life, I have not felt like writing or shooting since I have been in pain…truthfully I’ve been kind of a grumpy bastard.
Alas’ – The Human spirit must live on, I must endure, rehab and reengage. It can’t be any worse then tearing my calf muscle off the bone at the Beast of the East tournament last year. ( actually it’s a lot worse)
Next week I will make my physical therapy and anesthesia appointment and begin the process of recovery.
Doug, Pause, Tariq, and the Marsupial came over last week for spirits and reasonable discourse on interesting topics.
The Marsupial…and Doug I guess are both nocturnal so tough to get a good shots of.
